Monday’s are the best; a new start to a new week that’s chock full of endless possibility. Monday’s are also ruled by the moon; a powerhouse vessel of intuition, dreams, higher powers, that’s honored and represented by a long list of deities.
For today’s menswear post, I’m taking inspiration from Mani, a Norse god of the moon, and the brother of the god of the sun, Sol. Mani is said to ride across the sky in a horse drawn chariot, followed through his trek by a wolf; when the wolf approaches too closely, a lunar eclipse takes place. He is nephew of the night, and is said to travel around with two children, a boy and a girl named Hjuki and Bil. The children were sent to the moon as punishment after Mani caught them messing with his reflection in a well. Hjuki and Bill play around on the moon and form the spots and craters we see. Mani is said to protect those who are dealing with emotional pain, he is even said to be a patron to neglected children since some stories claim Hjuki and Bill were neglected.
There is not much information about Mani, and I hadn’t heard of,him prior to this post. I’m all for horses, wolves and I love the Norse pantheon (not to mention the moon), so I’m excited to learn more and work with this deity. For now, take inspiration from him. Think of how important the moon is in a universal sense and to the fact that it controls our tides and crops. Think of what the moon represents; duality, a light in the darkness, connection to dreams, nightmares, and one’s own power and intuition.
Now think about how you can incorporate this into your wardrobe. The metal that corresponds to the moon is silver; dress in black, whites and blues and wear silver to help align you to the the energies that are present. Wear pieces that fuel your passion for mystery, whether that’s a leather jacket, a nice watch or a monocle.
On this Monday, find your own sense of Mani by wearing patterns that mirror the moon’s rough surface. Dress in all black; the color of power and the night. Wear a watch that has a face like the moon, and take note of any little sparks of inspiration or any moments of intuitive clarity in a notebook just for you.
What inspires you when the moon is full?
