The other day I was daydreaming about the usual things; aliens, coffee, books, graduation and men in nice clothing. My mind wandered to the latter and all of the sudden my brain was overcome by more well dressed men than one girl can handle. But there was one thing that these men were missing, one pattern that my little single heart still skips a beat over- floral.

floralI can hear you now “GABRIELA THAT IS SO 2013” and this will be my replyFLORAL

Florals aren’t a trend- the way they’re presented on clothing may be, but floral ISN’T GROUNDBREAKING AND IT WILL NEVER GO OUT OF STYLE! And I will never stop loving how men look in floral. I don’t care if Gucci did floral in 2013 or if Dries Van Noten in 2014.  You don’t have to wear head to toe floral to feel #floralgoth, but injecting your wardrobe with a bit of floral can help you spice things up and make your closet BLOOM.

The biggest question is always WHERE CAN I GET SUCH BEAUTIFUL FLORAL! And even if it’s not your first question, I’m sure you’ve asked it. Click on the photos below to directly shop the beautiful, fresh flowers I have picked for you (get it?)

Topman is the best website/store/haven for simple silhouettes that pack a punch. If you’re looking for some hints of floral, you can buy a tee with a black collar or seems. If you’re more into the inconspicuous art of floral, you can always grab some boxers or boxer briefs. If you’re feeling dapper, how about a skinny suit with a floral tie?! The options are endless, my guy.

If you haven’t met Asos– you should. If bold, bright floral on black backgrounds are your thing then Asos is definitely a good resource. Prices are cheap and  whether you’re going for some shorts, a bow tie or a backpack, you can find something to add just the right amount of floral to your look.

Okay so now you know two cool places to shop…but what are you suppose to buy? Here  are two of my favorite trends.

Honestly how could you  not expect me to put a section for my favorite floral trend?! Pair a deep floral with a some black joggers, a pair of dark wash jeans or even some leather pants and BAM. Yeezy  would be proud. Also- how incredible are these floral ties?!? I want one!

Last but not least, my favorite menswear trend of all! I love a good button down and I am an even bigger advocate for floral button downs. Wear them with literally whatever the hell you want (extra points for a mun), maybe carry a dog, and you will feel like a king. Promise.  Check out Esquire HERE for 20 floral shirts you definitely need.

Hope this helps all my men!

It has come to my attention that some of my male friends, and some of the male population of Earth, think that it’s chill to wear ye old flip flop. Oh my god can you please just NOT. Slide2

I know they may seem practical, or comfortable or like “”a good choice”” but rest assured, I’m here to tell you that’s a LIE. I don’t want to see your hairy toes!! Also- they don’t match your outfit, and that’s a promise. There are five instances in which it is apporpriate to wear flip flops. 1- If you are taking your dog out. 2- If you are at sleepaway camp. 3- If you are in a shower. 4- If you are at the beach. 5- If you are at a pool. What does this not include? Day to day activities. Why not? BECAUSE THERE ARE SO MANY OTHER SHOES FOR YOU TO WEAR MEN, DEAR LORD. SO- here are five other shoes that are just as easy to wear as flip flops, but won’t make you look lazy and like you don’t know how to dress well. PS- click through the labeled photos to shop XO.

Slide5“Oh, I don’t like actually lacing up shoes or putting effort into my shoes” Men- this is no longer an excuse. The Beatles wore em, men of Britain wear em and I promise you, if you invest in a pair of Chelsea Boots women will love it oh and so will you! You’ll look dapper in with minimal effort. Pair em with your darkest wash jeans, a simple tee shirt and a leather jacket and you’re solid.

Slide3Maybe you’re too “nonchalant” for Chelsea Boots, that’s chill. Wear some damn Vans then. You don’t even have to get the kind that lace, although they tend to look sexier and less 2009 than their checkered slip-on alternatives. But again- Vans are more comfortable, look better and require just as little effort as your damn flops. Also- look at these guys. They’re literally wearing a tee shirt and jeans and look 100 times better than any man in flops. Jeez.

Dr. Martens are a classic and they look good on everyone. Seriously, you can get a canvas pair or a leather pair, a thick or thin soled pair. If they’re good enough for punks, they’re good enough for you. Dress em up or down, your choice. If you’re worried about your feet getting sweaty, it’s a sacrifice that will be worth it when you see how good you look.

Slide6Again this goes out to all my minimal effort men. Have you ever stuck your foot  in a loafer or a slip-on sneaker? Probably not, or you wouldn’t be wearing your flip flops. These things literally feel like you’re wearing a slipper. And you’ll look good, almost like royalty. Seriously though, you can get these at Zara or Target or pretty much anywhere that you know, sells real shoes, and they don’t have to be expensive. You literally don’t even have to put something between your toes like a thong- and you’ll look dapper.

So men, dear men, dear men who I love, please please PLEASE.

Menswear Monday; How to Rock Shorts

It’s absolutely no secret that I love a man in shorts (and a mun, and a short sleeve button up..with a fade). I obviously have a type. Anyway, as the sunshine kisses our skin we’re urged to drop our pants (har har) and replace them with their fraternal twins, shorts! Many men are too scared to venture to the above-the-knee style, but I personally think they are the best. Grab yourself a short sleeve button up or loose tank and you’re ready to go.

Men 1

An easy way to incorporate skinny shorts into your wardrobe is by picking up a pair that’s either black or dark wash. These can be worn with any color shirt, making them a little easier to deal with then their bleached older brothers. For a more casual approach to jorts, grab a floral tank top and some Vans. Wear your jorts the same way you would wear your jeans! Grab a tank with an interesting pattern and some Vans in a cool color. All set to show off your sexy  knees.

Men 2

For a light wash pair of shorts, grab a darker top. I love short sleeve button ups and jorts, they’re always an easy and classy option. Grab some funky socks and some cool work boots (not to mention some trendy accessories) and you’re good to go.

Men 3

You will never grow as a person if you don’t step out of your comfort zone. Seriously, what’s more nerve wracking that showing off your knees while wearing a printed pair of shorts?! Maybe wearing a printed pair of shorts with some Chelsea boots and a hat.. Well men, take the leap! Pair a printed pair of shorts with a simple, solid colored tank top. Make sure to keep the shoes simple also! If you’re wearing a statement piece like these shorts you don’t need to add a lot to them, they do the talking themselves.

Untitled #146

If you’re picking up a pair of distressed jorts, don’t be afraid to commit to the Nirvana-esqu vibe they  may bring. Grab one of your flannels, tie it around your waist and top the outfit off (literally) with a vintage band tank or tee. Slip into some Vans or Keds or the like and you’re all set.

Never be afraid to have fun with style. Seriously, it’s exhilarating to dress for no one but yourself. Have fun, take risks and show off your sexy knees.

Macabre Menswear Monday: Five Pieces Every Death King Should Own

If you live in the South, it’s that time of year where the weather fluctuates like crazy and leaves people sick and horribly confused as to what they should wear. Well my dear gentlemen, I am here to help you out. There are five pieces you should have in your closet to help make the process of actually getting dressed, and looking good, easy as pie.

Death King

1. A Nice Pair of Brogues or Combat Boots

It’s funny, I just wrote a blog post about five pieces every Death Queen should own, and it’s probably going to be very similar to this one. A nice pair of combat boots, or brogues, are seriously the perfect effortless, but put together, shoe. They’re comfortable, they look perfect paired with cut offs or cuffed jeans, and they are sturdy. Throw on a vintage tank top or short sleeve button up and you may as well call yourself my hubby (you’ll be looking that ace)

2. A Leather Jacket

Please don’t call yourself a Death King if this staple is missing from your wardrobe. You are so not punk if you don’t have a leather jacket (lol). Grab a biker style or a windbreaker style, depending on your aesthetic, pair it with your combat boots and BOOM, you’re good to go.

3. A Well Tailored Suit

So maybe you’re not all for the skinny suit, and maybe you’re not all for the classic suit. That’s okay. As long as you have one suit that fits properly, you’re good to go. Want a more modern take? Buy a color besides black; gray, maroon, even blue. You’ll be getting all the best looks. Also check THIS link about the “28 Rules of Wearing a Suit” out!

4. A Vintage Flannel Shirt

I realized I have never paid full price for a flannel shirt, and I have made this a life rule. I urge you to do the same. Hit up the local thrift store or Goodwill and find yourself a vintage flannel. Wear it with a loose tank and some skinny jeans or tied around your waist with a muscle tank and some cut offs. There’s a million ways to wear a flannel and I love it. Want to mix it with another pattern? Just make sure there’s at least one of the same colors in both patterns and you’ll be good.

5. A Straight Cut Pair of Dark-wash Jeans

i’m not talking about girl skinny jeans, I’m talking about jeans that hit at the natural waist and are straight down the entire way, creating long lean legs. They’re pretty much a universal leg lengthener and will really bring together your wardrobe.

Death King Essentials

The key to dressing well when the seasons are so crazy is layering. Put on your jeans, combat boots, a tank top, a leather jacket and tie your flannel around your waist. Get cold? Untie your flannel, take of your leather jacket, slip your arms in the flannel and BOOM. Also, I understand that you may not be wearing a nice suit in the dead of “winter” in South Carolina but come on, you need a nice suit. That’s a thing.

Macabre Monday: Death Kings Hate Sun

I arrived in Florida yesterday afternoon and when I sat down to blog today I realized that I’m leaving out a huge demographic of death king trendy men in my blog posts; those who (sadly) live in warm weather at this time of year! Hey! It’s not your fault you live in Florida, or maybe it is, but either way, I should still be able to help you with what to wear! So, today’s blog post is a mini shopping guide for those fellas who get the pleasure of 75 degree weather at this time of year! Click the image for links to all the clothing online if you’re far from a mall, or are just lazy and want to shop online (I won’t judge, I promise)

Did anyone really expect anything less than Topman?! Again, if you’re in NY you have to go.. it’s not a question. If you’re not in NY, you can shop online or head to Nordstrom and pick up some pieces. Here, I styled some jeans with a tee shirt with leather sleeves, a beanie, some slip on boots, a backpack, and a bomber style jacket.
Forever 21 men
Definitely a cult classic, Forever 21 is a go to place if the option is available. They don’t always have menswear, but if they do, grab a floral short sleeve button up, some straight cut jeans, combat boots, a windbreaker style jacket, a snazzy watch and a beanie and you’ll be good to go.

Nordstrom is a hub for all the death king essentials you’ll need. Like I mentioned before, they sell Topman which is ace if you’re like me and only live in NYC in your mind. Grab a cool tee shirt, some jeans, a nice briefcase and a motorcycle style leather jacket and you’ll be looking as dapper as death himself.

J Crew

Last but not least is J Crew. This last store isn’t so much “death king” but like anywhere, you can make it work with a little creativity. Button up short sleeves are always in style, and paired with this cardigan from J Crew’s collaboration with Comme Des Garcon, you got a death king match made in hell. I love these work boots and they play very well together with a pair of dark wash jeans. Snatch up some leather protector and you’ll be set for the best and most stylish “winter” of this life.

Also check out Gap, Banana Republic, H&M, Aldo, Pac Sun and Urban Outfitters.

Hope that helped, death kings!

Macabre Monday: What to Get Your Death King for the Holidays

It’s everyone’s favorite time of year; the holiday season is in full swing. It’s already halfway through Hanukkah (Happy Hannukah to any of my readers who are celebrating along with my family) and now it’s officially December! It’s officially time to start thinking about what to get your loved ones and what to wear for New Years and where to go for Chinese food on Christmas (for the Jews at least…). I’ve put together a little gift guide for the death king in your life (or like me, the imaginary death king in your life).

1. Anything and Everything Tom Ford

Tom Ford is effortless, classic and sexy. Buy him a gift set like this and he will love how he smells almost as much as you do. You can even buy a mini bottle of his cologne as a stocking stuffer.

2. A Nice Bow Tie

Topman is just a really great brand all around and this modern style bow tie is the perfect addition to any macabre men’s closet. Add some aftershave and a leather backpack to the gift and you have the perfect little set.

3. Some Trendy Boxer Briefs

Because what man wouldn’t appreciate some trendy boxer briefs? These Topman ones are way too great.

4. A Leather Snapback

I don’t usually dig snapbacks, but I love this leather Topman one (see the pattern?) Have your man pair it with some fitted, cuffed, black jeans and a short sleeve black button up for ultimate macabre sexiness.

5. Shaving Supplies

Anthony Logistics Shave Cream 170gmAnthony Logistics For Men - Pre-Shave Oil

I thoroughly appreciate a great beard, but not every man can pull that off. Why not get your man some nice supplies to make his shave smooth and his face supple? Add some cologne and your man will be irresistable (and all yours).

6. A Leather Backpack

You can be casual and still look cool as hell.Every man needs a leather backpack, especially a Death King. Again, this lovely piece is Topman. Stuff it with antique versions of his favorite books and you have an ace gift.

7. A Cool Lil’ Polaroid Camera

Polaroid Z340 14MP Digital Camera with 4x Optical Zoom and Built-In Printer - Black These babes can get a bit pricey but I think they’re an awesome gift. You can get them from a bunch of different places and if you’re up for the challenge I’m sure you can find one from a garage sale/ thrift/ antique shop that still works. Buy this for your man, sneak in some photos of him and stick them in a little backpack you got him and you got another little gift. Boom.

8. A Record Player

Who wouldn’t love a record player, especially if it’s as cute as this mini Crosley one? Definitely a staple that can turn any abode into a special little home. Add a couple records and he will love you forever. Not to mention the fact records always make great gifts, you’ll always know what to get him.

9. Vintage Tie Clips

A little piece like a vintage tie clip can add a lot to a simple black tie. Pair one, or a couple, vintage tie clips in a little gift box with a skinny tie and bow tie and your man will be dapper as ever,

10. A Slick Black Watch

I grew up appreciating a nice men’s watch because of my fathers ever expansive collection. I love how modern an all black watch is; it’s still a classic, just with a edgy and sexy twist. Add a hint of gold or silver and your man will feel as sexy as he looks.

What are YOU planning on buying for your man this Holiday season?!

Belstaff Spring 2014 Menswear Collection Review

I couldn’t pass up the fantastic opportunity of writing a wee menswear collection review. Past all the Polyvore posts and featured men, Menswear Monday hasn’t been quite so exciting. I always need practice articulating how a collection looks, feels…etc, and I wanted to catch up on the men’s shows so here I am! I reviewed Belstaff’s Spring 2013 Collection a couple weeks ago, and I had I couldn’t resist a review  of their menswear collection as well. This military inspired collection is rugged and rough in all the right ways. With pops of citrus and the perfectly fitted pants, this collection is definitely suited for everything from the harsh city streets to more natural and rugged terrain. Thick, industrial style jackets are given an urban twist with cinched waits and structured collars which lend the collection a slightly more feminine vibe (in all the right ways). This collection includes work style men’s bodysuits as well as ascots and some beautiful leather bags, which are all unexpected for Spring, but with bright neutrals they will definitely transition well. This collection is the perfect mix of industrial bad boy and well dressed gentleman. Who knew Columbia, SC could spawn such a talented designer!

Saint Laurent Spring 2014 Menswear Collection Review

This collection is not for the men who are faint of heart, nor is it for those who are questioning their masculinity. Slimane has done it again, seeking out a younger generation of thin, waif style, rockabilly boys to target in his most recent menswear collection. Leather was a staple, accenting the long, lean legs of the young thin men that wore them. Ranging from red and black pants to blazers and shoes, Slimane was not shy of this patent staple. Nor was he shy of eccentricity; although the collection has the classic skinny suite style throughout, Slimane manages to stray far, far away from being quote on quote “classic”. Some of the looks are more wearable, simple fitted suits with accents such as metal tipped  or leather lined collars. With suit jackets and blazers ranging in patterns from checkers and cheetah prints to polka dots and sequins, this Saint Laurent collection is probably not what YSL himself had in mind. Although many have detested Slimane from straying so far from the path of Yves Saint Laurent’s vision, it may be time to embrace change and youth. The target market may have changed, along with the houses’ name itself, since Slimane’s reign of Saint Laurent, but the cool, classic edge of Saint Laurent certainly has not. Fashion is an expression of the current times, and just like the 1920’s, maybe Slimane’s so called rebellion of the classic YSL style is Slimane’s effort to create a new age flapper style for men, so to speak. If Slimane is creating something so out of the ordinary for the house he is working for, who’s to say that he isn’t feeding the people what society is feeding him.

If you’re more for the classic menswear style and want to woe me, or any style appreciative lady, wear something along the lines of fitted pants, a blazer or leather jacket, some cool shades and the perfect leather shoe.

Menswear Monday: Richard James Spring 2014 Menswear Collection Review

This collection is a little bit dapper, a whole lot of Gatsby and even a little feminine. Consisting of mostly soft pastels and splashes of bright colors, this collection is for the man who doesn’t feel comfortable looking like he belongs chugging a beer. Skinny suits, plaid, summer hats and embroidered summer loafers all make an appearance for Spring 2014. The well dressed gentlemen is definitely coming back into style with thanks to The Great Gatsby, and men like This Fellow.

I like men who embrace monochromatic color pallets, and unusual color schemes.

Happy Monday!

Menswear Monday: 5 Reasons I Appreciate a Well Dressed Gentleman

First and foremost, let’s give it up to men who appreciate good style, and who appreciate a lady with good style. It’s obvious by now, but there is nothing that makes me happier than a well dressed gentleman with a good heart and an open mind.

1. If he puts effort into his appearance he puts effort into other aspects of his life

This has the potential to sound conceited, but think about it. My parents raised me by the notion that I had to love myself before I let anyone else love me. I appreciate a man who puts effort into his appearance because it means he cares for himself. If he has that aspect taken care of, he can put forth that same effort into other things. He loves himself enough to look nice so he must be able to love life, and love others (and probably me in the near future, right?)

2. Appreciating literature and art is a very underrated skill

By now you’re probably realizing I mean gentleman in the most encompassing form of the word. I love reading and although I’ve been devouring more non-fiction than fiction recently, I think that loving books is an important part of what makes a gentleman. I also love art and I think that is the sort of appreciation that speaks for itself.

3. A well dressed gentleman realizes chivalry isn’t dead

Even as a girl, I hold the door open for those behind me, ESPECIALLY if they have their hands full. I cannot tell you how many times last year at school I had boys walk right past me and not hold the door open when I had my hands full. I don’t care if you’re in a rush, that’s not chivalry, that’s being courteous! A gentleman realizes a lady is delicate and precious and will hold the door open for her!

4. A gentleman appreciates good conversation and a cup of coffee

Maybe it’s a cappuccino or tea or espresso. Either way, the simplicity of listening to someone talk over a warm drink is one of the most perfect little pleasures in life. There’s nothing like hearing a man in a nice suit talk about his life escapades over a almond milk chai.

5. A gentleman has character

Enough said

What do YOU think makes a gentleman?!
