Menswear Monday; Zachary Kent Adauto

Happy Monday, one and all! I haven’t featured a man for Menswear Monday in a good bit, so I decided to feature one of my best friends, and my fashion prodigy, Zack. It’s interesting how people who you don’t expect to be relevant in your life become relevant later on down the road. Zack and I would see each other at local shows all the time about three years ago, but it wasn’t until about a year and a half ago, the summer before my freshman year at college, that we truly became friends and started hanging out. Fast forward to present day and Zack is truly one of my best guy friends. Besides having a great sense of style, Zack has a spastic and happy personality, and even though he may not seem like it, he has a soft and beautiful heart. Zack loves telling people I am responsible for his sense style, and although I have helped style him on occasion, I think he needs to give himself some more credit.

If more men dressed like Zack, then I would be a very happy girl

Macabre Monday: Five Ways to Dress Like a Death King

Happy Monday one and all! While brainstorming something different for today’s post, I remembered I posted something on Instagram with the hashtag of #macabremmonday about a month ago. Well, since today is Menswear Monday after all, I decided to dedicate my Macabre Monday to my death kings out there. I love being able to wear all black and feel powerful and i honestly think a well dressed man in black is incredibly sexy. Today’s post features five simple ways to channel your inner Edgar Allen Poe!

 Classy and Casual

Start with the basics. A pair of jeans that fits well (not too tight, not too loose), a black short sleeve button up and some nice black suede boots or oxfords. Add a motorcycle style leather jacket, a leather briefcase and a thick beanie; I love the contrast of the slightly dressed up bag with the chunky beanie. Grab a book and a black and gold accented watch, and you look classy and casual and ready to take on whatever realm you choose.

Dapper on the Go

If you’re anything like me, you still take time to get ready for your 8:30 am class. I know this is unusual but I promise it doesn’t take more than 20 minutes to look decent for an early class and i can promise you’ll feel more prepared and confident for the day ahead. My biggest advice is to pick your outfit out the night before. Start like before with a  good pair of jeans, but in the cold winter months I would trade a button up short sleeve for a thick sweater, adding a coat and some boots once more. Leather accents, such as these boots, wallet and backpack, help you dress like a death king and still be comfortable and prepared for the day (or 8:30 stat). Invest in a killer watch and you’ll never be late,  even to outrun death himself.

Dressed for the Heavens

Every man should have pieces that make him feel like a king. I adore a well fitted suit on a man, my preference is of the skinny variety. If you have to be more formal for an event, a monochromatic black look with gold accents is easy and so classy it hurts. I started with this button up dress shirt and added some skinny trouser pants. I thought that a skinny tie would pop nicely with a vintage gold tie clip, and opted for this instead of a bow tie. I added a men’s blazer instead of a classic suit jacket to change the look into something a little bit more wearable. Change the details to something unexpected; add some leather work boots and sunglasses in a unique shape or style. Again, a black and gold watch adds the perfect pop, and some gold cuff links wouldn’t hurt either .

Top of the Class

To wear the title of “Death King” means being inspired by many dimensions, many lives and many stores..including the beloved Topman. Topman has an endless bounties of macabre pieces that can be worn and worn through season after season. Bundling up in black basics is always a good option when you want to feel and look good. Start with some jeans and a long sleeve tee, add a black hoodie, leather jacket and some boots to stay classic and comfortable. Add details like a woven belt and a weird beanie and you’ll stand out in the best way possible. Topmen don’t blend in, after all.

The Laziest Death King

People tend to have this crazy idea that being comfortable and lazy means you can’t dress well. Well. I am here to relieve your distress and tell you that’s not true. The biggest tip I have for my lazy fashion loving men is to buy and invest in pieces that are comfortable but still wearable. Buy some black Vans, some sweatpants that are cool, a graphic pullover.  Have a few pieces, like a good hoodie or some really nice worn in jeans, that you can turn to when you slept too much or are sick (read, hungover) or just lazy and still want to look good. I have some tee shirts from Pull and Bear that I know I can wear with some leggings and a big sweater and be cozy in. Grab some cool sweats, a varsity jacket, a graphic pullover and a sassy beanie and I promise you, you’ll look like the death king you are (even with no effort)

Gabriela Lorraine

Dear Breathing Fashion family,

It’s been four years!! Four crazy, wonderful, amazing years. Four years ago I accepted the journey of starting my own fashion blog, and it’s been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. There have been many ups and downs, but I am so proud to say that I never even let the idea of quitting enter my mind. As Breathing Fashion has grown, i have grown with it. I have discovered my voice, my passion for writing, my own personal style, and my dedication to what I hope to make a career in. Over the past year especially, I have collaborated with some amazing photographers, designers, brands and even been featured in a magazine. I have met some incredible people whose complete and utter faith in what I do has helped me more than they  know. I have established a solid reader base and found a layout that makes sense. I can’t get over how blessed I am to have had such a great run thus far. The future is bright, my loves, BF has big things coming!

I had a celebratory photo shoot, and am so pleased with how they turned out!

Here’s to the NEXT four years

Death Queen Style Sunday

Hello Breathing Fashionistas, I am so beyond glad to be back and to be, gradually, getting into the blogging grind! I am so excited for the year ahead of me, and I’m so excited to be back in Columbia.  I am also so excited to announce that my amazing friend Morgan Epperson, find her site HERE, is going to be collaborating with me every Sunday as my in house Sunday style photographer! Morgan is not only incredibly sweet and lovable, she is also incredibly talented and a fellow Fashion Board member. Today, we shot in my backyard, yes I have train tracks and a graveyard in my backyard, and I’m so happy with how amazing the photos turned out! I felt like today was a perfect day for a gauzy tank top, Carven inspired shorts and my Lita’s;  proper death queen attire

I keep forgetting I don’t have class tomorrow, which is super nice, and I’ve spent today with my twin at brunch and relaxing. I get to go to yoga later, spend the night with some friends and I’m looking forward to what the night holds!

Sunday Style: Soft Spots

It’s been a fun weekend filled with seeing friends from school who I’ve missed. I spent the day today drinking coffee, eating pancakes with friends, going to yoga and as of right now, watching the VMAs. I’m more than ready to throw these jeans on with a chunk knit sweater and some ankle boots. I’m so excited it was a mild summer, but I’m also excited for the chilly Fall ahead.

Snuck my roommates cat into a couple photos. Marceline is the cutest.

First Day of Fourteenth Grade

Today was my first day of classes, and I had to find the perfect outfit to wear. I only had one class today, since I’m taking three online, and I wanted to find the perfect mix of “don’t mess with me” and “please buy me coffee if you’re in line in front of me”. I don’t want to scare anyone away, but I don’t want to look basic either.I ended up wearing a silk tee shirt, some Carven inspired shorts, my quilted bag and my combat boots.

Sunday Style: Starbucks and Grey’s Anatomy

Happy Sunday dear readers! First and foremost I hope you noticed BREATHING FASHION’S NEW HOME! I am finally done switching over to wordpress!! I still have photos for some collection reviews to transfer, so bear with me! I am so excited that I finally was able to finish up the new site since I’ve been working on it since April. Anyway, I hope you enjoy all the new tabs and links and what not!

Today was lovely and simple and spent with my parents at breakfast running chores and later with some friends, relaxing. I got to spend some time with the amazing Miranda and we went to Starbucks, snapped some photos and watched Grey’s Anatomy…typical. I’m leaving for vacation soon and can’t wait to share what it will be like! How crazy and bizarre is it that it’s already mid July.. don’t understand it.

The Only Three Outfits you’ll ever need for the Beach

It’s obvious that the beach is singing my name, isn’t it? That’s not typically something I say, I typically like the forest and not so much sandy beaches. But seeing as I’m going to be sailing the seas with the Mexicans (my family), I can’t get my mind off the luxurious shorelines that call my name. The real question on my mind, for obvious reasons, is what will I wear!?

Throw on your pearly whites and some bright fiery oranges to watch the sunrise on your favorite island. The soft breeze of the early morning is paired perfectly with the warm red on your lips and cheeks, and the hand your holding is pretty warming too. The rising sun shines brightly on your gold nails and your pristine white Jeffrey Campbells and it brightens your disposition even more. How can you be upset in such a perfect paradise?

The hot, blaring summer has to be tamed with soft neutrals  in warm tones. Grab your Deandri shoes, and your Celine purse to hit the beach and you’ll be the hottest thing besides the sun. Your fresh sunnies protect your delicate eyes from those pesky rays, but don’t dismiss the cute boys you watch as you sip your daiquiri. Your tan lines may be a little crazy from your striking Herve Leger suit, but you don’t mind people staring, and why would you? Even under the shade of your umbrella you’e still the best eye candy on the beach.

You chase away the day with the sultry We Are Handsome bikini and the perfectly underrated NARS lipstick. You already know that the sun setting just means the night’s starting… and the fun is about to begin. Turn up the heart in your Jeffrey Campbells and nix the straw hat for something a little more seductive. Your day has been ravishing and fabulous and your night’s about to be as hot as the temperatures you had to endure. Good thing you’re prepared for anything and  will  turn every head you can in the process.

Saint Laurent Spring 2014 Menswear Collection Review

This collection is not for the men who are faint of heart, nor is it for those who are questioning their masculinity. Slimane has done it again, seeking out a younger generation of thin, waif style, rockabilly boys to target in his most recent menswear collection. Leather was a staple, accenting the long, lean legs of the young thin men that wore them. Ranging from red and black pants to blazers and shoes, Slimane was not shy of this patent staple. Nor was he shy of eccentricity; although the collection has the classic skinny suite style throughout, Slimane manages to stray far, far away from being quote on quote “classic”. Some of the looks are more wearable, simple fitted suits with accents such as metal tipped  or leather lined collars. With suit jackets and blazers ranging in patterns from checkers and cheetah prints to polka dots and sequins, this Saint Laurent collection is probably not what YSL himself had in mind. Although many have detested Slimane from straying so far from the path of Yves Saint Laurent’s vision, it may be time to embrace change and youth. The target market may have changed, along with the houses’ name itself, since Slimane’s reign of Saint Laurent, but the cool, classic edge of Saint Laurent certainly has not. Fashion is an expression of the current times, and just like the 1920’s, maybe Slimane’s so called rebellion of the classic YSL style is Slimane’s effort to create a new age flapper style for men, so to speak. If Slimane is creating something so out of the ordinary for the house he is working for, who’s to say that he isn’t feeding the people what society is feeding him.

If you’re more for the classic menswear style and want to woe me, or any style appreciative lady, wear something along the lines of fitted pants, a blazer or leather jacket, some cool shades and the perfect leather shoe.

Tee Shirt and Jeans

Happy Sunday, one and all. I wasn’t feeling my best after celebrating a friends 21st yesterday, so I took it easy today, throwing on this silk tee and bright cigarette jeans. I spent the day with my sister and mom, buying a mattress for next year and shopping for the house!

I think it’s interesting that most people have a comfort zone that revolves around tee shirts and jeans. I have an incredibly hard time wearing plain denim, as that’s OUT of my comfort zone. It may be a fear of blending in, and not feeling like myself, but wearing plain blue jeans makes me feel extremely uncomfortable and I stopped wearing it years ago. I have jeans and tee shirts that are different, an interesting texture or pattern, something that appeals to the eyes and when I’m feeling lazy, or sick, that’s what I go to when the weather is a bit warmer!

Carven Resort 2014 Collection Review

Carven is one of my favorite houses, that much is evident. But just because i love a house doesn’t mean I love every aspect of every collection. As a darker soul I tend to appreciate fall and winter collections more so than any other. This seems to be the case with this collection as well. The patterns and prints of Carven’s Resort collection are perfect and subtle, but the sunglasses completely rectangular shape doesn’t seem to compliment the rest of the look. Some of the off the shoulder dresses don’t quite seem to mesh with the silhouette or the texture of the piece they’re paired with .  This collection overall, however, is still classically Carven. Somehow whimsical and grown up at the same time, the pieces manage to be structured and delicate which seems perfectly refreshing for resort. Carven also manages to show how color blocking is still relevant and alive, if done well.

A Day in the Life

Adventure is a mindset; that much I believe. Yet, you can only be so adventurous living in a suburb of Atlanta. My days are filled with books, good friends, coffee, shows/concerts, good conversation and clothing, and honestly, I wouldn’t have it any other way. I am leaving to University of South Carolina this Thursday to study fashion merchandising with a minor in print journalism so obviously, this summer has been a hectic one. Let me cleat this up though, I mean hectic in the best way possible. Anyway, my summer has easily been the best one I’ve ever had. It’s the little things I seem to treasure the most.

What’s been your favorite part of summer?

A few outfits, a picture of a print that will be adorning my dorm room (bottom right), my fox friends who will be adorning my bed (bottom left) and my new skull scarf and studded clutch (middle left).

A Little Bit of Color

Black and floral are most definitely my favorite colors (ha..ha), but I like to spice things up occasionally and wear color every once in a while. After buying this beaut of a shirt a few days ago, I decided to wear it today since the weather was oh so forgiving. This lovely burnt orange, sheer, cut out button down is from Forever 21, and my dainty floral shorts are from a recent trip to Zara. Today was spent out for lunch and going to the car wash. Not necessarily the most exciting of days, but in my opinion there is no better day to dress up than today!

Jean Paul Gaultier Spring 2012 Couture Collection Review

Simple, elegant, beautiful…words that would NEVER (and I mean never…) be used to describe this collection. But I can’t even deny it… I am in love with this couture collection. Seriously. Jean Paul is known for his almost costume like pieces, his unorthodox approach to fashion. A lot like Galliano, Gaultier is never afraid to take risks, and you can tell by looking at the first look in this collection. Probably the least couture like couture collection ever sent down the Paris runways, each piece pays undeniable respect to the late Amy Winehouse. The hair, the makeup, the classic Amy silhouette are all elements that Gaultier seamlessly incorporated into this collection. There is definitely a sense of rock and roll and feminine strength in this collection, an undeniable it girl factor that is so very Winehouse. It’s easy to forget that this isn’t RTW though. This collection isn’t for the faint of heart or for the older woman who likes to keep her couture, well, classic. Believe me, there is nothing that screams classic couture like leotard and see through netted dresses (my favorite).Honestly, there is something in this collection for every fashionable diva who wants to make an entrance. There’s something more retro like a crazy stacked and structured shoulder shirt, or a more edgy look that is very bare and leaves only a little to the imagination. From black lace to a beautiful jewel toned almost floral print dress, there is no lack of variety in this collection.
