THIS IS HALLOWEEN

Welcome Witches! Happy Halloween!
It’s our season. It’s the time of the waning year and with the darkness comes an extra dose of magick. This past Halloween weekend in LA was extra special for a few reasons, one of them being because it was actually gloomy and raining! The energy at this time of year is always thick, fuzzy with the energy that comes with the veil between this world and the next thinning. And the gloomy, dark, overcast weather lent a wonderful, although heavy, energy to the Halloween festivities. One of my best friends Cory was visiting for the weekend and being able to show him gloomy LA was the perfect Halloween welcome.

14591838_10153824765836207_6460138977780490973_nFriday for work I dressed up as Wednesday Addams, again. I already had this set and I got this harness and these shoes at Deandri’s warehouse sale last weekend- they were begging to be worn together!img_8767

Friday night was an extra special treat because I got to see one of my favorite bands, Balance & Composure, for the first time in two years. Seeing them in LA was completely unexpected but amazing. I decided to prove my commitment and dress up as Sparkle Motion which made dancing a little bit more special and way more fun. I thoroughly enjoyed channeling my inner Samantha Darko.

Halloween is the perfect time to bring out the most outlandish pieces from my closet and wear them all at once. I got this latex dress from Valfre about a month ago and was so excited to finally pair it with a fresh shave! I wore this during the day Saturday before going full Halloween that night.  I also loved seeing so many random people (mostly children!) dressed up, out and about during the day. I love being able to be especially out there at this time of year, when people are less worried about what others will think, heck you can be whoever you want on Halloween! How special is that.

Saturday night I went out with some friends and decided to dress up as Black Phillip. Of course. Black Phillip is a character in the The Witch, a period piece about a family of English settlers in the early 1600’s who have a firsthand encounter with a Witch. It turns out their family goat, Black Phillip, isn’t as innocent as he seems…maxresdefault

I  even had a book so people could sign their souls to me. I wore a vintage bathing suit, thigh high fishnet stockings, TUK creepers and a Disturbia jacket. I had to wear my horns a little lopsided but what can you do! I contoured my face with some gray makeup, drew on a nose and some freckles and called it a night.

img_8885My twin sister Alexandra was the Upside Down so of course we had to get a photo. It’s not everyday you can sign your soul away to the Devil in the Upside Down .img_8877We ended Saturday night with some Mexican food…as if I couldn’t love Halloween any more. Processed with VSCO with a6 preset

Sunday was spent eating brunch, walking around, enjoying the creepy and unnerving weather and modeling in front of beautiful pink walls (which I will post photos of in the next few days!) Halloween is the perfect time to wear what you want, love who you want and be what you want.14882172_10153833402691207_12386625749246764_oToday I dressed up as my Queen and came into work! Ha! Halloween is for fun and what’s more fun than dressing up as your idol//boss? Nothing. I’m so thankful that I’ve got to dress up so much for the holiday. Tonight I will be holding a ritual and performing divination. It’s the perfect time to reflect, honor those who have passed and take time to plan on what you want in the next year.

I hope you all have a wonderful holiday!

BF DOES HALLOWEEN 2015

As some of your may or may not know, I work at Hip Wa Zee– aka the coolest costume meets vintage shop located in good ole Columbia, South Caroina. We take Halloween very seriously, duh, and all the employees dress up the last two weeks of October (except all of us are so excited that we start earlier). I’ve been chronicling my costumes on Instagram and Facebook, but decided this was the perfect place to debut all of them.

 LYDIA DEETZ

12 11 10The whole premise was to look like my whole life is a dark room, one big dark room. Thankfully, for most of my costumes, I was able to use clothing I already had. Case in point- this entire look. The shirt and skirt are both from H&M, the bra top is Topshop and my hat is vintage. My new Polaroid camera came in handy (even though it was white) and I just put white makeup along my cheekbones and purple under my eyes to achieve the whole “dead on the inside” thing.

Gaby Had a Little Lamb

Who’s afraid of the big bad wolf? I am, because I’m a lamb (duh). This turned out to be one of my favorite costumes because I spent the entire day feeling adorable. I wore a leotard from Nasty Gal with some bloomer shorts I got from our store. I paired it with gloves (also from our store) that I covered in cotton balls,  ears I made from felt and cotton balls and a white wig (also from the store). I topped it off with white socks and oxfords from Target and a fresh face of lamb makeup.

“I see you shiver with antici…

pation”

So I realized I pretty much dress like this most of the time anyway, except you know, with more clothing. This leather bra and waist cincher from Ivory of Forgotten Feather, shorts are from Hip Wa Zee, thigh highs are from Urban and shoes are from Target. I contoured the cr** out of my face, put on my favorite deep red lippie and called it a day. Oh- but don’t forget the pearls.

Grown Up Wednesday Addams

3 4

I’m a homicidal maniac, they  look just like everyone else.  I was Wednesday all grown up, because you know she totally would have had half her hair shaved off and she would’ve been into witchcraft and tarot. Ivory found me this vintage set over summer, literally the day before I told her I wanted to be Wednesday Addams one day for Halloween (spooky coincidence, no?!).  I paired this with my oxfords and a glowstick axe I painted.

Edgar Allan HOE

5

Because I wanted to dress like Edgar, mustache and all, but I wanted to do my own take on it and make it sexy… then Edgar Allan Hoe was born. I’m still proud of it. I wore fishnets, an old button down from American Threads, my favorite hot pants, a vintage scarf from Ivory and sock garters from Hip Wa Zee. I paired it with my mustache and a wrap around braid. I won a costume contest for this and I’m still excited about it.

White Trash

Get it ? I only worked for a few hours between classes and I wanted to see if I could pull this off. The fake cigarette behind my ear was just the icing on the Mountain Dew.

And my Halloween Costume…

Yzma

6yyy

“PULL THE LEVER KRONK”

SO this was pretty much the greatest costume I ever put together pretty much solely because I LOVE YZMA.  Alex and I grew up watching The Emperors New Groove and I always admired Yzma’s charisma and outfits. I got the brilliant idea of dressing up as my favorite lady on Halloween night and I knew I had to follow through. I paired a vintage slip from Ivory with a purple feather (that perfectly matched my sidecut!) and I glued purple fabric on a black collar. Topped it off with Yzma makeup and a thigh garter and I was Gucci.

What were YOU this Halloween?

Menswear Monday: Inspired by the Supers

What’s better than having an excuse to dress up in a costume? Probably nothing (but chocolate milk comes close). Although it can be super fun to strut around in full blown super hero attire, sometimes the time, or money, constraints don’t let this happen. Even as a dude, though, you can still take a lesson in fashion from the sexiest men in the universe; Batman, Spiderman and Superman.

Batman is probably my favorite superhero. I love how dark and gloomy and misunderstood he is, typical, right? He’s pretty easy to dress as too! Grab yourself some black jeans, and a black tank top, a black leather jacket and a yellow hoodie. Slide the hoodie on under the leather jacket and let the hood hang out like a makeshift cape. Add a leather backpack, some black shoes and of course, a Batman mask, and you’ll be the darkest knight in sight,

Superman is a little bit more colorful than his bat brethren. Start with some black jeans and a blue tank top, add a red hoodie and black leather jacket (letting the hood hang out again) and top it off with some yellow shoes. Still don’t think people recognize who you’re inspired by? Add a Superman backpack for good measure,

Last but not least is Spiderman. You can easily channel him by grabbing a pair of dark blue jeans, a red tank top and a black leather jacket. Slide on some black oxfords or boots, a dark blue backpack and a red or blue watch and you’ll be a bigger babe than Andrew Gardfield (and let’s not kid ourselves, he’s a huge babe).

Who are YOU dressing as this Halloween?
